Week's forecast

Week's forecast issued Sunday, 7th February, valid Wednesday 10th to Sunday 14th February 2010.

Teesdale forecast (issued Sunday 7th) Cold returning, snow showers.

With the jet stream expected to move back southwards and a blocking high pressure system building to our north, expect a return of cold north-easterly winds this week. There will be sleet and snow showers at times and night frosts.

High 4C (40°F) in Barnard Castle. Low -5°C (23°F)

There are indications that the current pressure pattern could last for some time. If it does so, this could turn out to be our coldest winter since 1978/79. This is quite remarkable for current times ? especially as we have been led to believe that cold winters are a thing of the past! It is already the snowiest winter for the past 31 years with 115cm (almost 4 feet) fresh snowfalls measured so far.

Last week's statistics:- Temperature 1.0°C(usually 2.3°C) High 7°C(45°F) Saturday. Low -6°C(21°F) Wednesday. Windiest 28mph Monday . Rain 10mm (norm 18mm). Sunshine 25hr(norm 13hr).
